Community Schools Is Now Operating Hames

Click here for a Hames Schedule and Information

All registration forms can be found at Hames and should be returned there as well.

Hames has a new number - 747-8096

Community Schools is now operating the Hames Athletic and Wellness Center. This is very exciting for both Community Schools and the community of Sitka, but it will take some adjusting. We are adding a new facility without adding new staff. We are working hard to make this transition as smooth as possible and would appreciate your patience and cooperation.

Thank you from everyone at Community Schools.

AmeriCorps Swear In

On Tuesday, June 10th, Curt Ledford, Director of Community Schools, swore in 28 new AmeriCorps members at the SEACC Building. The new AmeriCorps Volunteers were a mix of Community Schools' new AmeriCorps program and YABAH (Young Alaskans Building Affordable Housing). YABAH is building a new house off of Indian River. Community Schools has 12 youth AmeriCorps who will be working at SEACC, the Sheldon Jackson Campus, and the Sitka Sound Science Center (the former SJ Hatchery). Community Schools also welcomed two of its new adult AmeriCorps Volunteers, Josh Vranek and Ronny Walden. Josh and Ronny will be joined by returning AmeriCorps member, Livvy King and 10 more new Community Schools' AmeriCorps by mid August.

Community Schools Says Good-bye to Stacie

This year Community Schools was lucky to have Stacie Bolan come up and work at Keet Gooshi Heen. Stacie, originally from Jamaica, left New York City and came to Sitka with an open mind ready to experience everything Sitka had to offer. She will be leaving us July 7th and will be missed.

Everyone at KGH loved Stacie. She was always up for anything they threw at and and they were all impressed with her skills. She always was ready to brighten up anyone's day with her cheery attitude. Stacie's love of games is something she shared with other volunteers as well as students. Stacie went above and beyond this year and her shoes will be hard to fill.

What the future holds for Stacie after Sitka is still unsure. She plans to go back to teaching but not quit sure where yet. We know that she will do great things whatever she goes and we wish her the best of luck.

Good Luck Stacie, We'll Miss You!!!
