why do we do it?
We never want to hear someone say, “There’s nothing to do in Sitka.”  We love kids and want to provide them with as many meaningful, fun, and enriching opportunities as we can.  We recognize that working parents can’t always be home right after school.  Through Crossing Bridges, we offer a safe place where kids can unwind after a long day, have a snack, visit with friends, and play or learn.  We offer a chance for teachers to interact with their students in a more relaxed atmosphere, strengthening the relationships between kids and adults.  And we get kids excited about being involved in school on another level.  In the end, it all adds up to kids who feel more connected to school, who have more friendships and social support, and who get better grades.  Also, we get a kick out of it when little Johnny can checkmate us from the seat of a unicycle while performing an improv skit in French.  Our kids are developing amazing talents, and we have a bright future in store when these kids begin leading our community.

Join us!

Adults, we need you to help lead these programs.  If you can spare two hours or more per week, or can pitch in once in a while, please contact Eric Matthes at 966-1441 or matthese@mail.ssd.k12.ak.us.  If you have a passion for kids, we’ll find a place where you can help.
