Welcome to Baranof Elementary School! Baranof is a primary school nestled between majestic mountains and the sparkling ocean and is a lovely place to be! We have a very experienced and dedicated staff. Baranof School includes special needs preschool classes and grades kindergarten through first. Our school population varies from year to year but typically includes about 260 students. Our building was remodeled in 2000 and features a large salt water aquarium in the lobby which is source of fascination to all that enter.

Baranof School has a long standing tradition of focusing on early literacy skills. In addition to on-going staff literacy training opportunities provided through the Literacy Collaborative model we also offer special reading support to first graders that need assistance through our Reading Recovery program. Reading Recovery allows specially trained teachers to work one-on-one with any child that needs extra support to become a proficient reader. Literacy and a love of books are stressed throughout our school.
